The Professional Theatre Intensive brings together college actors, recent graduates, and emerging professional theatre artists for an immersive two-week residency focused on the creation of new work. Developed in partnership with the Colorado New Play Festival, participants work alongside professional playwrights, directors, dramaturges, and guest companies as they explore the collaborative process of bringing contemporary stories to life.
Rather than rehearsing a traditional production, artists engage in script development, staged readings, workshops, devised theatre, contemporary performance techniques, and professional actor training. Participants gain firsthand experience with the creative process behind new plays while strengthening their acting craft, collaboration skills, and artistic voice.
This unique partnership provides invaluable opportunities to connect with working theatre professionals, develop original material, and experience the dynamic relationship between playwright and performer in an inspiring artistic community.
A public presentation of selected works concludes the intensive.

Designed for dedicated actors and musical theatre performers, this three-week intensive prepares students for the demands of today’s performing arts industry through rigorous training in acting, voice, movement, audition technique, contemporary storytelling, and ensemble creation.
Students work in a collaborative environment that emphasizes authentic performance, creative risk-taking, and individual artistic growth. Through interdisciplinary experiences—including aerial and circus arts, movement, dance, and devised theatre—performers develop the physical versatility and storytelling skills increasingly sought after in theatre, film, and musical theatre.
Evening rehearsals and collaborative performance projects challenge students to become adaptable artists who can confidently move between disciplines while remaining grounded in exceptional storytelling.
Ages: 15–18 (entering 10th grade–1st year of college)

Designed for dedicated high school artists preparing for college, conservatory, or professional careers, the Pre-Professional Performance Intensive offers two weeks of rigorous, career-focused training led by outstanding faculty and guest artists in the inspiring setting of the Rocky Mountains.
Theatre Track
The Theatre Intensive prepares students for the evolving entertainment industry through training in film and television acting, voice-over, audition technique, contemporary storytelling, and on-camera performance. Students will develop the skills, confidence, and professional tools needed to navigate today’s theatre and media landscape.
Throughout the intensive, students collaborate with fellow emerging artists, receive individualized mentorship, and participate in performance opportunities that challenge them artistically while preparing them for the next step in their creative journey.

July 19-31, 2027
For the dedicated young artist with a passion for theatre, the Young Artist Intensive provides an immersive experience designed to develop authentic performers, confident collaborators, and thoughtful storytellers. Guided by Perry-Mansfield’s exceptional faculty, students strengthen their acting technique while discovering their unique artistic voice in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Rather than focusing on producing a full-scale show, this two-week intensive emphasizes the individual artist. Through acting, movement, voice, improvisation, devised theatre, contemporary storytelling, and ensemble work, students are encouraged to take creative risks, deepen their craft, and build the confidence to bring their authentic selves to every performance.
In addition to foundational theatre training, students choose from a variety of electives— including dance, music, writing, visual arts, and more—to expand their artistic perspective and experience the interdisciplinary tradition that has defined Perry-Mansfield for generations.
Our thoughtfully-redesigned two-week format responds to feedback from families, allowing students greater flexibility for travel and additional summer opportunities while preserving the exceptional mentorship, artistic exploration, and community that make Perry-Mansfield unique.
We are excited to continue offering a non-residential option for participants from the Yampa Valley area.
This two-week intensive requires attendance for the full duration of the program to ensure each student receives the complete artistic experience.
