Perry-Mansfield FAQ

General Information

Where is Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp?

We are located at 40755 County Road 36, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487. Our historic campus is nestled in the beautiful Strawberry Park area, just minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs.

Because of the highly collaborative structure of our programs and the progression of our curriculum, partial participation or late arrivals are not permitted.

Programs are filled on a rolling basis. Because our tracks often reach capacity quickly, we strongly recommend applying as early as possible to secure your spot.

Requirements vary by program. Some residential programs require a pre-screen audition or portfolio for acceptance. All programs, including non-audition programs, still require a standard application. All materials can be submitted through our online CampDoc portal.

Please Note: Day Camp and Emerging Artist (EA) students are the only students who do not have to audition. All other programs require an audition with varying requirements.

Admission decisions are typically sent via email within approximately two weeks after all required materials (including auditions or portfolios) have been submitted. However, we too are human, so please allow up to four weeks for processing.

Tuition & Refunds

What does tuition cover?

For residential students, tuition covers all world-class training, lodging, and meals. For non-residential students, tuition covers all world-class training and 2 meals. Additional funds are needed for laundry services, purchases at the camp store, or items bought during scheduled Saturday trips into town as well as Saturday lunches. Please note that transportation to Steamboat Springs from the Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) is also included.

Yes. Merit-based scholarships are available for eligible students in select programs based on their audition. There is also a very limited amount of need-based scholarships available. You can reach out to admin@perry-mansfield.org for more information.

Life at Camp

Can friends and family members visit students?

Students are allowed one family visit per session. Visits must be scheduled in advance with the camp office. To maintain the focus of our students, visits may not occur during scheduled classes or rehearsals.

Students live in our historic, rustic cabins on bunk beds. Campers must bring their own bedding and towels. Cabins are grouped by age and are simplistic, staying true to our "camp in the woods" heritage.

Our dedicated counselors focus entirely on camper well-being and safety, while our faculty and administrative staff provide additional oversight throughout the day.

To encourage immersion in the arts and nature, cell phones may only be used on Saturdays (Professional Dance Programs are exempt from this). Laptops, tablets, and electronic games are not allowed. In the event of an emergency, parents can always reach their child through the main camp office at 970-879-7125.

Please Note: Students who bring their phones for Saturday use should bring the device and a charger in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag labeled with their name and program.

Meals are served buffet-style and always include vegetarian options. We can accommodate almost all special dietary needs as long as we are notified well in advance and the information is included in the camper's profile. Students with special dietary needs are welcome and encouraged to bring their own stock of snacks to be stored in a designated location in the kitchen, as food is not allowed in cabins.

Trained staff are available 24/7 to provide routine care and handle emergencies. Please note that Perry-Mansfield does not cover the cost of outside medical services (doctors, hospitals, or prescriptions).

It is very common for students to feel homesick during the first few days! Our staff is specially trained to support students through this transition. Most campers find that once they dive into their classes and make friends, the homesickness disappears quickly.

Yes! Students love receiving mail. However, please do not send food. Due to our location, food in cabins attracts wildlife (including bears and rodents); therefore, food is strictly prohibited in cabins. We recommend sending letters, stickers, camp-style games, or meaningful medium-to-small non-food items.
