PREP-SCHOOL FOR A CAREER IN ARTS The Young Artist Intensive is for the focused young person wishing to pursue his or her passion for the performing arts. Superior instruction from our esteemed faculty and the opportunity to take part in a world premier production makes this a program that is second to none. Come and explore your talents, challenge yourself in a nurturing environment and realize your inner potential!
WHAT YOU’LL STUDY
All students are cast in a theatrical or musical presentation, OR a dance production. Class placements and production castings are held the day following student arrival. The program is demanding and requires students to juggle a busy schedule. The session concludes with two evenings of public performances held during the last week of camp. The final Friday of the session is Showcase Day, and parents are encouraged to attend. Students spend the entire day sharing what they have learned in each class.
Young Artist Intensive students have five class periods per day, and can choose from a selection of dance, theatre and musical theatre core classes, with electives in dramatic writing, visual arts and equestrian. Students cast in the public performances must attend evening and weekend rehearsals. Students also have the option of signing up for fee-based activities, including whitewater rafting, semi-private riding lessons, and private piano or voice lessons.
DANCE Our Young Artist Intensive program is designed for the student who is ready for more focused study. Perry-Mansfield offers a dynamically intensive program taught by exceptional faculty. It is geared for the enthusiastic dance student and those eager to immerse themselves in their craft. This comprehensive program offers classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Dance Composition and may also include classes in Dance Composition, Pointe, Tap and Aerial Dance.
MUSICAL THEATRE Young Artist Intensive students have the opportunity to explore fundamentals necessary to the singing actor: good musicianship, a solid vocal technique, strong acting skills and familiarity with the repertory. Advanced classes for Young Artists encourage students with performing experience to analyze and explore the repertory in greater depth, and to expand their performance skills.
THEATRE The Young Artist Intensive offers dedicated theatre students the opportunity to engage in a focused training program and to work with dedicated, experienced professionals. Classes emphasize personal growth through the acquisition and enhancement of fundamental skills in performance practices, audition technique and characterization.
ELECTIVES All Young Artists will have the opportunity to take classes in the areas of Creative Writing, Visual Art and Equestrian. Students are encouraged to take classes outside of their chosen discipline.
