STEPPING STONE TO A CAREER IN THE ARTS The Pre-Professional Intensive is designed for the serious student interested in pursuing a career in the arts. Our aspiring actors & dancers must be open and interested in a rigorous program that demands dedication. At Perry-Mansfield it is our goal to develop actors and dancers who hunger to expand their capacities as performers and artists. The Pre-Professional Intensive is a unique program that boasts an accomplished faculty that translates the demands of the professional world into a one-of-a-kind experience.
WHAT YOU’LL STUDY
Two tracks: Dance or Theatre/Musical Theatre
DANCE The six-week Pre-Professional Intensive is an immersion in dance at the highest possible level. Students take 5 classes each day and will have the opportunity to study ballet, modern, jazz, dance composition, Pointe, tap, aerial dance and repertory. Students are required to take one class outside of their chosen discipline and may choose classes in the areas of theatre/musical theatre, visual art, creative writing or equestrian. All students have the opportunity to observe and interact with faculty and guest artists whose backgrounds include performing with Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey, David Parsons, José Limon, Robert Battle, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Hamburg Ballet, the Mannheim Ballet, New York Theatre Ballet, Twyla Tharp, The Lion King and others. The program culminates in the public performance of Evening of Dance.
THEATRE / MUSICAL THEATRE The Pre-Professional Intensive offers dedicated students the opportunity to engage in a focused training program and to work with dedicated, experienced professionals. Students have a pre-set curriculum and will take classes in ensemble/dance, acting/playwriting, and musical theatre/songwriting. Students are required to take one class outside of their chosen discipline and may choose classes in the areas of dance, visual art, creative writing or equestrian. Each student is cast in two productions. Rehearsed concurrently, our dynamic student artists – within six weeks – enjoy the rare opportunity to perform in a world premiere play and a classic musical.
