Perry-Mansfield begins its summer programming with the New Works Festival. The New Works Festival, which was founded in 1997 at Perry-Mansfield, creates a forum for the development of new work for the stage by supporting playwrights and institutions that intend to produce the playwright’s work in the future. New Works Festival brings 4-5 playwrights in conjunction with theatre companies to Perry-Mansfield at the beginning of our summer season. The playwrights spend a week working with professional actors and dancers to create their new work. The festival culminates in performances of these new pieces.
New Works Festival provides amazing opportunities for our Pre-Professional Intensive students. They connect with some of the leading artists in the field (professional actors, playwrights, theatre companies), witness the creation of new plays, and may participate in performances. New Works Festival also connects artists and institutions to produce new work, provides a rare retreat for artists to develop work, and allows for public readings of plays in progress.
New Works Festival has an unprecedented track record of future success for the featured productions: 4 out of 5 pieces that originate at New Works will see a fully mounted production within 5 years!
New Works Festival runs June 5 – 12 during our 2016 Camp Season! Tickets will be available to the public to see performances. Watch for announcements of the New Works Festival season!
