Michael Jarett

Michael Jarett

Michael Jarett is currently the Lighting Designer/Dance Technical Director for the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Dance and Choreography. Additionally, he works as a freelance lighting designer. Michael earned a BA in Theater from the University of Richmond, a MFA in Theater Design from Brandeis University, and has held the Gilbert Hemsley Lighting Internship at Lincoln Center. As the Hemsley Intern, he worked with the Lincoln Center Festival, New York City Opera, New York City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Design credits include the World Premieres of The Two Orphans (by Theresa Rebeck); Sex! Drugs! & Ukuleles! (directed by Victor Maog); and the U.S. Premiere of Refuge of Lies. Michael’s designs have been seen in New York at Theatre Row, Theater for the New City, and Dance Theater Workshop; and regionally at the Arundel Barn Playhouse, Berkshire Theater Festival, Brandeis Theater Company, Cape Rep Theatre, Emerald City Opera, Firehouse Theatre Project, James Madison University, Playhouse on Park, Reagle Players, the University of Richmond, VCU Dance, and West End Assembly of God. He has designed for choreographers and dance companies including Robert Battle, Monica Bill Barnes, Stefanie Batten Bland, Myra Daleng, Linda Kent, Nicholas Villeneuve, Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion, Amaranth Contemporary Dance, Camille A. Brown and Dancers, Ground Zero Dance, Starr Foster Dance Project, and the VON HOWARD PROJECT. Mike was the Production/Lighting Director for the 2010 Mid-Atlantic ACDF Conference hosted by VCU Dance and will be the Production/Lighting Director for the 2012 Mid-Atlantic ACDF Conference hosted by James Madison University. For the 2010 National American College Dance Festival, Michael re-created his lighting for Christian von Howard’s A Statement About Being at the Kennedy Center.

Mike joined Perry-Mansfield in 2009 and is entering his fourth season as Production Manager/Lighting Designer. Previously for P-M, Mike has designed the lighting for New Works Festival (2009–2011); Evening of Dance (2009–2011); Machinal; Pirates of Penzance; Honey Goodenough; The King Stag; Pippin; The Water Knows My Name; Young Artist Evening of Dance 2010; P-M Premieres 2011 (Out of Joint and The Moon); and The Music Man. Regina Garcia

(Set Designer) Born in Puerto Rico, Regina attended Sarah Lawrence College and New York University’s Department of Design for Stage and Film where she received her MFA in Scenic Design. Recently completed projects include: Astral Convertible 2010 with original choreography by Trisha Brown and re-imagined technology by John Toenjes at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts; 26 Miles by Quiara Alegria Hudes, directed by Tara Mallen for Rivendell and Teatro Vista; and Lynn Nottage’s Ruined, directed by Ron Himes at The St. Louis Black Repertory. She has designed for directors Giovanna Sardelli, Daniella Topol, Thomas Kail, Victor Maog, Jorge Ali Triana, Michael J. Garces, Miriam Colon and Bartlett Sher, amongst others. She has also worked with renowned Latino theaters including Repertorio Español, Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, INTAR, and was the Resident Scenic Designer at Pregones Theater, Bronx, NY, for more than ten years.

Regina is a Fellow of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers, and a recipient of a Princess Grace Award for her work with Pregones and a Latino ACE Award for her designs for Borinquen vive en el barrio. She is a company member with Teatro Vista and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, Chicago, and teaches Scenic Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
