Art_Class1TWO-WEEK JUNIOR CAMP
For students entering 5th grade - 7th grade
2010 SESSION: Friday, June 25 - Saturday, July 10

Students may attend the two-week Junior Camp session as a Day student or as a Residential student. Click here for admission and cost information.

Junior Camp is a two-week program designed for the younger student who wants to explore the performing arts. The program offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes required classes in dance, theater and musical theater, with electives in art, creative writing and equestrian. Class placements are held on the first full day of camp, after which each student is assigned to an appropriate-level dance, theater and musical theater class. Students can then choose two other classes from the list of electives or, as approved based on class placement, from the other dance, theater and musical theater offerings. Junior students have five class periods per day.

stairsResidential students participate in special evening and weekend activities that include a combination of performing arts sessions and camp activities, such as hikes, swimming, talent shows, dances or Camp Olympics. On the final Friday of camp, students present a final showcase to which all parents are invited.

Daily Routine

RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS
July_4th_ParadeFor Residential Students, each program is structured to meet the needs of the student's ages with appropriate classes and activities. There is some free time each day, but residential students are busy from breakfast into the evening hours.

A typical day begins at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast and cabin chores.

Monday through Friday, there are classes and planned activities throughout the day, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 or 5:30 p.m., with some free time before and after lunch.

Young Artist and Pre-Professional students have rehearsal periods both before and after dinner, while Residential Junior students have an evening activity period after dinner.

For Young Artist & Pre-Professional students, the weekends allow time for laundry, trips to town, outdoor recreational activities and camp activities such as dances, talent shows, and camp Olympics.

There are no rehearsals on Saturday, and two rehearsal periods on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00/10:00 p.m.

DAY STUDENTS
Day Students
arrive in time for their first scheduled class, activity, or rehearsal period and leave after their last scheduled class, activity, or rehearsal.

Discovery Day Camp has a set daily schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Day students  in the Junior, Young Artist and Pre-Professional programs require more flexibility. Students enrolled in less than four classes may have open periods, depending upon their individual class schedule.

Young Artist and Pre-Professional students who are participating in a performance (requires a minimum of two classes) are required to be at all evening and Sunday rehearsals. No exceptions.

Junior Day students are not eligible for evening activities.

Lunch is included for all Day Students, and other meals are available for a $4.00 per-meal fee.

WHAT TO BRING
In late April students will receive a handbook specific to their program describing what they should bring to camp. Please review the list carefully, as it may include items for special projects, or specific class and and program enrollments. For all dance classes, appropriate dancewear and footwear is required. Black character shoes are required for students cast in theater and musical theater performances. For equestrian classes, long pants and a sturdy heeled boot are mandatory.
