Michael E. Smith - Company Member and Director of Education for The House Theatre of Chicago. Mike received a Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre from Skidmore College, where he graduated with honors in 1999. During his college years, he spend a semester in London studying at the British American Drama Academy, where he met future House Company Members Nathan Allen and Carolyn Defrin! In 2001 Mike moved to the Midwest and became the Director of Theatre Arts at North Lawndale College Prep. Charter School (NLCP) in Chicago. At NLCP Mike taught several courses in Theatre, Public Speaking and College Readiness as well as directing several theatrical productions. In 2002, he became a company member of the newly-formed House Theatre of Chicago and has performed in many of their award-winning and critically acclaimed productions such as The Valentine Trilogy, The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan, The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz, The Sparrow, Cyrano, Hatfield and McCoy and The Nutcracker. As Director of Education at The House, Mike strives to create opportunities for young theatre artists to develop their skills of imaginative and theatrical storytelling. Mike encourages students to explore the aesthetics, methods and values that are integral to the work of The House Theatre and other innovative theatre companies.
